Taking a quick over view of this year,Samsung has been a point of attraction for the world for producing finest smartphones.LG being the Nexus manufacturers for Google took a bold step and tried their best to steal the spotlight from Samsung,announced 'The World's first flexible OLED panel for smartphones' but didn't mention the actual device yet.
Rumors says that LG will announce their OLED equipped devices in the next month but they'll still a step behind from Samsung as Samsung is just about to launch its device.
In the press release, LG says their flexible OLED isn’t glass, but plastic substrates instead. They apply film-type encapsulation and attach a protection film to the back of the panel, thus making the display bendable and unbreakable. It’s only .44mm thick, which makes it one of the slimmest displays and it comes in at 6-inches. Hit the break for the full press release.
LG,being the world's leading innovator of display technologies has recently announced that they'll start mass production for the first flexible OLED display.
“LG Display is launching a new era of flexible displays for smartphones with its industry-leading technology,” said Dr. Sang Deog Yeo, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of LG Display."
In March 2012 LG Display developed the world’s first 6-inch Electronic Paper Display (EPD) based on e-ink which utilizes a plastic backplane. Having previously showcased the world’s first curved 55-inch OLED TV panel at CES 2013, today’s announcement highlights the company’s leading position in advanced flexible display technologies.
If this remain continue for another era,according to research firm HIS Display Bank,there will be a massive growth in the world's flexible display industry and will increase up to 1.5 billion market USD by 2016.
One can think of a better era for the LG
